About this property

Welcome to Old Faithful Snow Lodge

Located in the heart of Yellowstone National Park, Old Faithful Snow Lodge offers a rustic stay characterized by its log cabin style. The lodge features simple rooms and cabins that emphasize practicality over luxury, with cozy communal spaces including a lounge, a bar, and an onsite restaurant, the Old Faithful Snow Lodge Geyser Grill. Free Wi-Fi, parking, and accessibility features are available, and the property is both pet- and kid-friendly. However, it lacks air conditioning, a pool, a fitness center, and airport shuttle services.

The setting is a significant draw, with the lodge positioned just a 10-minute walk from the famous Old Faithful geyser, making it a convenient base for exploring nearby geothermal features and the wider park. Guests can also find other notable attractions close by such as the Old Faithful Inn and the Upper Geyser Basin, which hosts over 150 geysers. Feedback highlights the benefit of proximity to these natural wonders, especially for visitors looking to immerse themselves in Yellowstone’s unique environment.

Guest reviews often note the compact size and limited storage of the rooms, which may feel cramped during longer stays. Dining options, while sufficient, have been described as somewhat limited and repetitive, particularly for families. Despite this, many appreciate the warm hospitality and the cozy atmosphere of the lodge, especially in winter when the surrounding landscape offers opportunities for activities like cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

The property caters well to visitors prioritizing location and an authentic park experience over upscale accommodations. It appeals especially to those seeking a straightforward, comfortable place to stay while exploring Yellowstone’s famous natural attractions. Check-in is from 16:30 and check-out by 11:00, allowing for a full day to take in the surrounding national park sights.

The rooms were small and needed more space for storage (clothes, personal items). The menu was the same every night (four nights for us); more variety, especially for families, would be helpful. Disappointed that proficient guests couldn't play the very prominent piano. There were delicious cookies and cider in reception every night, and the Fireside Station had very good snacks and sandwiches. All that being said, there is no better place to cross-country ski among the thermal features than right here! It's the only place to stay during the winter in Yellowstone.

I like the room, even with its limited storage for clothes, the beds, pillows, shower. Very comfortable. Impressed to see a Fellow Stagg kettle for water. Quiet. I’d stay here again. Terrible toilets. Small. High water level. Any seated position will result in splash or spray. Ask for a room with an ADA toilet if it won’t compromise someone with a disability who needs it.

Our family spent a week at Yellowstone National Park during January of 2026. It was magical. The landscapes are breathtaking and it is so wonderful to see so much wildlife. We stayed at the two lodges that are open within the park and we took advantage of half day tours offered by Xanterra, the company that also manages the lodging and dining. The staff were attentive and helpful, the tour guides were excellent. Xanterra offers a variety of tours that include wildlife viewing, snow shoeing or cross county skiing, as well as going to many beautiful places within the park. Prices are reasonable and the vacation was highly enjoyable. We are so lucky that Yellowstone National Park and its ecosystem are being protected.

The snow lodge was beautiful, the Xanterra organization top-notch, though the cabin rooms were old-seeming and not prettily situated. Staff everywhere were great. A beautiful x-c ski experience past thermal features and bison. However negotiating our way around the various out-buildings, walking or skiing, took some effort before we were on a consistent trail. Nice to be away from the crowds in a cabin, but the lodge rooms themselves looked beautiful. Wonderful to be in this park in the winter vs during summer mayhem!

Yellowstone in the winter is extraordinary, and our stay with Xanterra made the experience truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, every detail blended adventure with comfort in a way that allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the park. Traveling by Snow Bus with its massive tires through snow-covered landscapes felt like part expedition, part guided tour, and the drivers and staff shared incredible knowledge along the way. Old Faithful Snow Lodge was warm, welcoming, and perfectly situated in the heart of the park when almost everything else is closed. Watching Old Faithful erupt with only a handful of visitors, spotting wildlife along quiet trails, and returning to a cozy cabin after cross-country skiing and snowshoeing felt surreal. The hospitality stood out most. Every employee we met clearly chose to be there, and their passion for Yellowstone made the experience even more special. If you’re considering Yellowstone in the winter, do it. Xanterra creates a rare opportunity to experience the park’s beauty, solitude, and adventure in a way few people ever get to see. Highly recommend.

The Snow Lodge at Yellowstone is an amazing place. A short walk out the door and you can watch Old Faithful do its thing. The ski shop offers ski, snow shoes and traction devices for walking on ice and snow. We tried a guided snow shoe walk and it was so magical entering a forest and experiencing the peacefulness of winter in Yellowstone Every staff member we interacted with were friendly and passionate about the park. This is truly a special place!

Wonderful winter stay. Be aware that even the king rooms are small and the bathroom is cool but very cramped. The old look tub is cool but very hard to get in and out of. The rooms have very little counter space and no drawers so you have to live out of your suitcase, even if you are there for a few days. But overall, it is a very fun, very attractive winter stay.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5 – Beautiful Lodge and Great Location, But Limited Dining in September We stayed at the Old Faithful Snow Lodge in September and really enjoyed our time there. The location can’t be beat — being just steps from Old Faithful and the geyser basin makes it incredibly convenient and a wonderful base for exploring that part of the park. The lodge itself feels modern, clean, and well maintained, with a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. Our room was spotless, comfortably furnished, and not too warm (even without air conditioning). The fan in the room provided plenty of airflow, and we appreciated the thoughtful welcome note from our housekeeper — a small but personal touch. The Wi-Fi worked great, which was a pleasant surprise inside the park. As expected, rates are high, but that’s fairly standard for in-park lodging. The Obsidian Dining Room was good — the food was tasty and the service friendly. However, we were disappointed to find that most other dining options had already closed for the season, leaving only two dinner choices. We had to line up before opening to secure a spot, since the other restaurant’s next available reservation wasn’t until 9:30 p.m. After a long day of exploring, the idea of not being able to get dinner felt stressful. Overall, the Snow Lodge delivered exactly what it promises: a clean, comfortable, and modern stay right in the heart of Yellowstone. Just be prepared for limited dining options late in the season and plan your meals ahead.
